Revisited an older painting I made back in 2005 [link] (I realize my link will say 2006, but that is wrong...)

The second title I had come up for with this piece was "Love is Blind", but noting the relevance of her being armless, "disarmed" worked on more than one level. The idea is a mixture of both those titles... The feelings of her being disturbing and decorative were consciously made to suggest how girls subject themselves to certain pressures with the notion of being in love. Some things are taken for granted.
(I'm liking the flat shape lately too)

10X20", Acrylic on canvas

Striking work. She's this teal hue, the shade of the blues, slow and swaying and somber, and often about love or love lost. One can relate to her, falling too hard and finding yourself with no defenses, often taken advantage of, and still seeing but half of the true scenario. Lovely!

(Have to say, no matter how much I enjoy interpretations, there is some sort of satisfaction when someone catches the idea I originally planned. Thanks ~ )

no it has not, haha. That one is being sent to a show out in LA right now, but the show doesn't start until March 3rd. If you're interested I can mark it down before then? Someone else has done that with "Blue" which will be in the same show.

Yes, please. Would really like to purchase something with a girl w/long dark hair and sultry looking w/butterflies like reptile. Loved the skin tone in that one too. If you have something like that coming out soon, please let me know. :thanks:

Is that a "yes please" to Disarmed? If so, note me and I can send you all the contact info. for the curator.
As far as Reptile or something similar to it in style, I could probably paint you something for this summer (a commission) if you would really like? You've done a great deal for me, so it would be no bother for me to finish one up ^__^

Alrighty! Here's the curators email address - thelovem3@yahoo.com - if you send her a message she'll get everything arranged with you concerning "Disarmed". The show will go for the month of March, but afterwards it'll be all yours ^__^
I'll also get things arranged with a commission for you this summer. Should be fun and it's always a pleasure to do business with you -- you're wicked-aweome : D

Thank you so much! I'm so happy you enjoy my work as much as you do ~

have to admit i am one of those such girls and i hate it :(
i wanna be one of the beings that hides away their heart so that no one can get to it
and then if someone that is deserving comes along i can perhaps takeit out if they prove their worth
i love this painting and it perfectly describes me and my heart

Its sad how some girls are just so blinded by 'love' that they become vulnerable and in most cases get hurt

mhmm, it almost seems like a right of passage as a teenager anymore. You learn from mistakes though, which can always be seen as the brighter side of a bad story.

Thank you as well! I'm glad you like it : D

This is lovely, I like it quite a bit. I saw it on your personal website already. I was wondering why you hadn't submitted it to deviantart. I love the flat white too. I use it a lot too, on digital art, but I've never tried it in a painting. It intimidates me to deviate from the norm in traditional art. One day haha

Ya, the original work bothers me - that's why I didn't submit it and mainly way I decided to re-work it, haha. The face and the negative space of the first hadn't been worked very well.

But ya ~ you should give deviations a try! I was scared at first as well, but it's aways refreshing when I return to something a little less conforming. Mind you, I enjoy both, they just have their own times and place ^__^

She's one of my favs! I saw her stuff in Juxtapoz a little while back and have been in love since. It kind of scares me how much our stuff has in common, though I think my work is starting to deviate from that a little.

But ya, She and Joe Sorren rock my socks ^__^

i adore this piece...the blues and the whites.
and i can't seem to stop thinking about your description, and what women might be subjected to, in love. she appears to me as measured, bound, and supplicant/submissive...one might even say handicapped, in a way, given the loss of the arms and the use of one eye. i feel as though she is in an incredibly vulnerable space, by her own choosing. and i find that very frightening and resonant.

i often to shy away from commenting on traditional art, as my own experience in it is limited and meandering (and not really visible here)..i'm not always sure i feel qualified to say something.

Whoa, it looks so different from the previous one, much more elegant and flowing somehow. I think that different people would probably have very different intepretations of the symbolism. I'm very fond of the flat white parts, but the breasts also look wonderful due to the excellent shading.

Forgive me a moment as I rant...

I love your art but I have yet to comment as I feel like I never have the right things to say and your art is so beautiful its hard to put what I feel in words. This drawing incorporates a lot that I like about your art in general so I thought I'd unleash my thoughts all here. I have to say the thing that first draws my attention is your the elegantly elongated necks. I particularly admire necks so this I love. Your feminine figure always exude a presence that makes them a focus of the image even if other things are going on in the image. I think this is partially from the way you light them. The light shines from them as much as it shines on them. Another reason is for this presence is the detail you put in the eyes. Even with only one eye showing she has entraced me. I cannot look away. Your color choices are always spot on and in this image in particular they work surprisingly well. The Black and the white of course contrast well. The blue gives it a coldness but you manage to give the figure a vibrance despite this. But in particular the pink heart surprises me. Usually the inclusion of a color so opposed to the others would seem out of place but you added that element without overpowering the rest the image. You are able to balance elements so well and that is evident in all your images. I love you art in every way and always look forward to seeing it!

Well, firstly ~ don't worry about what is the 'right' thing to say or the 'wrong' thing; I have yet to be bothered by any comment made so far, but quite the opposite!
The eyes are most definitely my pride and soul in a painting! They are the cherry on a cake and the joy of my life, hehe. I love painting eyes. Colours are also something I love to work out; though most of the time I don't plan colours before hand, they usually end up bringing all the liveliness and composition together.
Thank you very very much for the response. I find ti very funny and cute that you decided to hide in the shadows for so long ^__^

-Cheers

I like this one much more than the first! one thing though, i'm not that great with anatomy, but I just thought to myself, I wonder if there's a little bit too much space between the breasts. I don't know, just curious. Very beautiful anyways though, I love the addition of the white hair and bow. :D

The white flat-shape parts definitely float my boat - I think I'm becoming addicted to that design element. As far as the anatomy, I think the space is pretty accurate (mind you I distort my figures like crazy). I'm taking my first anatomy course right now, so I will still have much to learn ^__^

Thank you though; I'm liking it more than the first too :)
