Another painting inspired by a song from Radiohead, "Fake Plastic Trees". The songs' lyrics reflect a saddness in how our world is becoming increasingly artifical, as seen through the eyes of various fictional people. Although it's hard to see from the photo, I incorporated a cereal number on both the plant and the girls hand. I may end up re-doing this paitning becuase it isn't very clear on the topic -
"The green plastic watering can, for a fake chinese rubber plant, in the fake plastic earth, that she bought from a rubber man, in a town full of rubber plans, to get rid of itself. It wears her out...."
"She looks like the real thing, she tastes like the real thing, my fake plastic love..."
The distortions are amazing. If you want to push the idea of plastic you could add shines to the plant and the girl much like what a Barbie would have. Either way I think it is successful on its own.

"Does art save? And is it going to save me?" - The Plain Janes
Your works resemble a happier, less pop-artsy Mark Ryden... the comparison may/may not piss you off, but bad luck either way
This is my favorite of all the pieces for 5 reasons (..and possibly an 'encore' reason) -
- You used the influence of lyrics to create without being cheesy.
- The morose application and use of color... the monochromatic background, soft tone/'scared but silent' type shadows, which burrow the character's diminutive features.
- The idea that the world is ageing into a time of strict etiquette and media domination ... very well expressed.
- Originality of style...
- Respect to the Radiohead fan ... ROCK N ROLL BIATCH! ... *dusts off dress and sits down*
Nah, the comparison doesn't bother me, but I get the feeling Mark Ryden is becoming the new Tim Burton cliche ~ I love Ryden's work and I can surely agree with you with the happier, less pop'y element ---
I think the greatest influence on me as far as other artists has been Joe Sorren though. Anyone who doesn't know about him, should check him out : D

Neat idea, though the numbers are hard to see indeed. But it's still neat

In the world of perfect imitations, the art is born from errors in duplication.
I know Joe Sorren... he's got a rougher, more raw style. I hope this type of art doesn't sell out.
