Niagara Falls: The honeymoon capital and my home-town.
...Though Im not making a painting about the falls because its pretty; Im targeting the tourism. And not just the tourists, which I kind of relate to seagulls, but the on going development that tarnishes the falls more and more each year. I do love the Falls ~ its a gorgeous sight! But every time I look at old paintings of it, I cant help but wish I had been there a couple centuries ago.
Kind of went for a noir look, though there are a few things I wish now I had changed.
I love the b&w, there's something elegant about that. Sadly, the Niagara experience is ubiquitous. I used to love the Outer Banks...now every square inch is being covered with beach houses- not cool little cottages, but massive, bring the whole tribe things. And they all have pools. At the beach. OK, granted, about half the time I've been there the beach has been red flagged & uh...I was talking about your art, wasn't I? Too much coffee, man. For a second there I thought the cherry on the ice cream was seagull poo.
I wont grow up I'm a Toys 'r Us kid....

I agree about the development thing, even if I've never been there. Everytime you post a painting I think 'this is my favorite!' but this really stays in my mind.
Wow, I did not realize you live in Niagara falls!!
Your concept is wonderful.. And I know very well the feeling you speak of. It is sad that places like this are so over-run by tourism.. some day our world will be so over-traveled that nothing will be left to a natural state.
I've lived in the niagara area my whole life and I've had some good times in the falls...it is gorgeous there.. but it really is very tourist infested.4 ripper joints in a row is a little much.
Anyways this is a great picture. I really like that you did it "noir" style.
relating tourists to seagulls.. too funny!
I've never been there, but it sure is sad when tourism destroys beautiful places. The piece looks amazingly good, as always!

We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
