Title taken from a book that I have not read, but would like to, by Marshall McLuhan called "The Mechanical Bride" - which is a theoretical analysis of mass communication and how the use of sex sells industrial hardware, to how we are spoon fed ideologies along with products. I added "and the rising tide" because it is another metaphorical saying attributed to McLuhan about the rising city-scape and commercial world (plus it rhymes ^__^).
...Outside of that speal, I'm planning on adding more symbols to indicate her 'mechanical' traits. I wanted a sympathy to arise for the MB-- almost as if this is an arranged marriage between the capitalist society and the drowning individual; something inescapable...
Oh, wow. This is stunning. The shadows and detail are right on, and i like the symbols of society in her dress. wow. just wow. I hate not being able to say more!
This picture is beautiful, and fits really well with your explanation/source material. By the way, there are a band called Mechanical Bride too, they're really good!
According to Freud, everything is about sex. Since one of the defining principles of Life is reproduction, and everyone wants to reproduce to some degree.
THUS sex sells.

Why thank you ~ I've always enjoyed doing monochromatic colour schemes with a dash of complimentary. Or at least a grouping of analagous with a compliment.
Everything just pops then : D
I think everything is close to being about sex for guys, lol. I don't mean that in a bad way, however. For women, I think it is about being sexy, which can make the ads suitable to them as well... and in effect, make the female body the one used most often. What I find the most interesting is how the rise in sexy-male imaged ads has been in correspondence with the rise of homosexuality; or at least the acceptance of it.
That's really only a theory of mine though... I think it's a worthy theory ; p
Really! I have no heard of them - I shall have to find some of their stuff... More than likely they named themselves after McLuhan then. They don't happen to be Canadian are they?

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
