Redo of my painting "Unplugged", which although I liked, I also had another image in mind. The painting was made from a photo, but exaggerated.
The plug symbolism which I had been using for awhile concerned ideas of communication, as a physical and emotional action. I decided to juxtapose the removal of the plug with the empty socket of an electronic plug... Moving once again into my cyborg/technological themes.
Anyway, outside all that 'blah blah', I am planning to paint with oils over top of the acrylic and give it an even more fleshy appeal!
What bothers me is the socket on her hand. i don't know. Maybe because in europe the electrical outlets look different. and yet... the connection with the electrical energy is reticent in me.
I'm not familiar with what European outlets look like, but now that you mention a difference I should check it out. So does the outlet bother you in how it looks technically or just the idea of it being there?
no.. it's not the presence of the outlet that bothers me... don't get em wrong. I love the concept. It's a great image of the actual things and the hand, human "tool" that needs to be connected is really great. The fact that the character is un+plugged is great. and the eu electrical energy plugs are not very different same 2 pins plus the grounding.
guess that what makes me thing a little is the fact that it's an electrical outlet. Of course... the ideea of "fuel" is great as in if there were an electrical power crisis there would be a human crisis.
i don't know if i would appreciate more an usb or a telephone slot.
For some reason it's always the noses in your paintings which strike me, make of that what you will.
I really like the composition in this, the elongated dimensions suit it very well. The lighting - as always - is excellent.
